Think of a decadent baked dessert dripping with caramel sauce, warm buns freshly baked and straight from the oven, or a delicious hearty stew boasting with flavour and colour. The kind of food where you can smell and taste the meals just by looking at the photos.
These are the blogs I like to follow, the ones that entice you to get busy in the kitchen.
I had a craving for ice-cream the weekend and tried my hand at a no-churn Cherry and bourbon flavour that I found on one of the blogs and boy was it DELICIOUS! Yes, it is winter in Cape Town, but when you see how dreamy it looked you’ll understand. I’ll post the details soon and will also try some more recipes to share with you.
In the meantime, I’ve complied a list of some of my favourites to follow but be warned, you WILL be hungry after this!
Two Sugar Bugs
If you are looking for delicious and approachable recipes then Two Sugar Bugs is the one for you. She has such a variety from caramel indulged sweet treats to easy to follow savoury recipes. Once you find something, you’ll want to make it again and again!
The Fresh Cooky
With a husband and two boys, it’s not hard to see why most of her recipes are aimed at preparing wholesome family meals. She also has a few boozy drinks recipes where the only skills you need are holding a shaker and measuring tot sizes (did I hear someone say cocktail hour!?).
I’d want to be stuck at her home during a pandemic!
Sally’s baking addiction
If you are looking for ‘no-fail’ baking recipes then this is the page to head to! Her cookies are delectable and recipes easy to follow with South African measurements and temperatures.
Dessert for Two
If you have a sweet tooth and (like me) but don’t want to bake a whole cake or batch of pancakes, then you should follow this page. All her recipes are easy to follow with serving sizes of one to two people.
Leozette Roode
A proudly South African Afrikaans girl leading the vegan lifestyle. I must admit I have not tried any vegan recipes, mainly because they look (and sound) extremely unappetizing but she has changed my outlook! I think I’ll incorporate some of these into ‘meat-free’ Mondays.
You don’t have to be an advanced cook or baker to follow most of these recipes so give it a try and leave a note in the comments if you have a favourite blog you think I should follow.
